Worcester Elder Law/Estate Planning Attorney Earns Advanced Law Degree in Taxation

Worcester, MA (March 23, 2004) -- Mark W. Worthington, a Worcester attorney, has been awarded the Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from the Graduate Tax Program at Boston University Law School. Mr. Worthington, an attorney licensed to practice by Massachusetts, has offices at 34 Cedar Street in Worcester. He practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning and elder law, helping clients with such issues as reducing estate taxes, avoiding probate, establishing wills and trusts, creating charitable tax plans, and understanding Medicaid and the complexity of nursing home decisions. Mr. Worthington also holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) from the University of Rochester.

"I originally began the LL.M. program with a focus on how estate taxes affect high-net-worth clients." stated Mr. Worthington. "But the in-depth tax background has ended up saving estate planning and elder law clients significant taxes, even if they are of moderate or low net worth. And it has been invaluable in designing plans that have just the right combination of retained powers and tax characteristics that is right for each client," he continued.

About the LL.M. in Taxation

The LL.M. is a post-doctoral degree in a specialized area of law. Only 6% of all lawyers go beyond the J.D. to earn an LL.M in one of 50 different fields. Of those, only a fraction earn their LL.M. in taxation.

The Graduate Tax Program of Boston University Law School is in its 43rd year. Its program leading to the LL.M. in Taxation is designed to expose students to the rigorous academic challenges of current tax law and to train them to be excellent tax practitioners. The goal of the Program is to confer a post-doctoral degree that reflects a mastery of tax law, its practice, its ethics, and some of its subtleties.
