Local Attorney Elected President of Massachusetts Chapter of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys

Worcester, MA (January 15, 2007) -- Mark W. Worthington, a Worcester attorney, has been elected President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a non-profit association that assists lawyers, bar organizations, and other professionals who are dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with special needs and people as they age. Previously, Attorney Worthington served as President-Elect and Treasurer of the organization. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2000.

With offices at 34 Cedar Street in Worcester, Attorney Worthington practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning and elder law, helping clients with such issues as reducing estate taxes, avoiding probate, establishing wills and trusts, business succession planning, and understanding Medicaid and the complexity of nursing home decisions. He is an Adjunct Professor at Western New England School of Law where he teaches in the Masters of Laws (LL.M) program in Estate Planning and Elder Law. Mr. Worthington holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University Law School and a J.D. from Northeastern University Law School. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney*, one of only four in Massachusetts who also holds an LL.M.

National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys

NAELA currently has more than 5,000 members across the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The Massachusetts Chapter of NAELA (Mass NAELA) is the largest NAELA chapter, with nearly 600 members. It is the premier organization of elder law attorneys in the Commonwealth. Mass NAELA members are committed to this area of the law and have the qualifications to assist families in dealing with a range of legal issues that impact older persons. Mass NAELA members are the leading writers and teachers of continuing legal education in elder law for the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., and Suffolk University.

Mark W. Worthington is an attorney licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. His practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning and elder law. Active in the community, Mr. Worthington is a member of the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, WealthCounsel, and the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce. He has published articles in BNA Tax Management’s Estates, Gifts and Trusts Journal, in Trusts & Estates magazine, and in Parent Care magazine. * Required Statement

Unlike many states, Massachusetts has no official certifications or specialties in any area of law. Because of this, the Supreme Judicial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires a statement like the one below to be included in any communication from a lawyer licensed by the Commonwealth and indicating that the lawyer holds a specialized certification:
