Don't Wait Until the Last Minute to Make a Long-Term Care Decision
Americans are living longer which
increases the chances of needing long-term
care.
Dr. Catherine Hawes, PhD, Professor at
Texas A & M's Health Science Center
School of Rural Public Health and
nationally known authority on long-term
care and nursing home quality, states "We
spend more time doing research about a
car we want to buy than we do when
selecting a nursing home or assisted living
facility." Because consumers have not
evaluated options ahead of time, decisions
must frequently be made quickly,
increasing the pressure and stress level. "That leaves consumers one day to find a
facility for a relative, and availability
rather than quality may be the deciding
factor," said Dr. Hawes.
